Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment

Building on the 'Responding to Climate Change' section of the Stewardship Action Plan, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority granted funds to Pro-vision Reef to assess the vulnerability of the marine aquarium supply industry to climate change. The resultant report, which will be on the site in the next week or so, outlined the projected biophysical impacts of climate change; the manner in which climate change affects the ecological risk of the fisheries; the management framework in place in anticipation of responding to climate change events; and an assessment of the adaptive capacity of the industry. It is expected that a Climate Change Adaptation Plan will emenate from the vulnerability assessment and that this could take the form of an updated Stewardship Action Plan, a range of business planning services, and further collaboration with management agencies to ensure response is coordinated and well informed to minimise uncertainty.
